It was a loooong drive. This trip I was slightly under-prepared to entertain the wee ones, but we got there. And then attempted to take pictures by flowers.
Just, everyone, hold still and look at the camera!
Jared was no longer interested.
Carriage ride
Rosie was a bit more on edge than usual, so we went back to our hotel and she felt hotter than usual, so I went to the pharmacy to get a thermometer and tylenol.
Her temperature was 105.2 degrees.
Crazy.
A cool bath and lots of medicine got it down to 102ish, so we went to bed the best we could. The next morning it was a (medicated) 98 degrees, so we went and played some more.
Herding the sheep
Yeehaw!
Then at lunch Rosie was hot again, so we took her temp which was up to 104. Gah! Poor baby and rotten vacation!
So I took her to the ER in Carthage to get some antibiotics (we were gone for 6 hours). Before I left, I dropped off Ken and Jared in historic Nauvoo. They played for a bit, but Jared pretty promptly wet himself. So on a rather brisk September day, Ken walked Jared a mile back up the hill to the hotel wearing only Ken's sweatshirt and shoes. Though they did stop at the brickyard on their way up. Ha ha! Memories for sure.
The next morning, we were still not rested or relaxed from vacation (Rosie still needed some nurturing that night), but we went to church anyway. Only once we got there we found out that it was stake conference and wasn't starting for another hour. So we left. But we did go to church!
We took a few pictures at the temple with our dying camera before we left town.
For a while I felt pretty gypped, but my Mom reminded me that we did this for Jared and to make memories. We did that. And it was an adventure.
I guess we will just have to try again!

Oh goodness, it's alot of work. Go you, though!! PS did you get my message on facebook? Are you guys going to the BYU/Notre Dame game? We want to come visit and hang out! But I don't have your email or phone number...Message me on FB if you can!
Wow - that is a trip for "the record"! I hope everyone has had a chance to "recover" and that Rosie is doing much, much better! That's great, though, to start a "temple" tradition with the family. Jared and Rosie are so cute - looks like Jared did enjoy his time in Nauvoo!
What a trip. Just glad all of you are safe. I hope your sweet little girl is feeling better. And yes...you for sure made memories this trip!
Oh my! Poor thing! How scary for Rosie's temp to be so high! Hope she's all better.
Sadly that's usually how trips with wee ones go. Your story seems particularly frustrating though, so hopefully you get a bit of a break on the next one. :) It's always the most work for MOM, though, so don't expect that part to go away. ;) It's hard for me not to complain about doing all the work while everyone else is just relaxing, but I'm getting better! Good luck in the future! :)
