Meal planning

This week I planned our meals before I went shopping. This may not seem monumental, but I have thought about/ committed to doing this for a while now. I usually just go and make sure I have the basics: Salad supplies, tomatoes, bread, milk, eggs and any of the things we ran out of this past week. But as Ken pointed out, I forget about a fair amount of things in the back of the fridge and we are letting our money rot.
So I planned meals for this week. Even wrote them down! I am trying out a few new recipes like a London Broil and Cheese Enchiladas. Now I'll have to see if my planning feels worth it. Or maybe we'll just go back to Spaghetti 3-4 times a week.

Sunday Dress-UP

This is a picture of Jared in his outfit that used to belong to his Uncle Peter (My brother). Hence the P on the jacket. It is soooo cute. This lovely Sunday outfit was made by my dear Aunt Greta. We're especially careful not to get this one dirty as it is heirloom-esque.

Four Years

Four years ago today, Ken and I went on our first date! It was a devotional, at which President Hinckley was presiding to dedicate the Joseph Fielding Smith Building. We met at the Brigham Young Statue (Ken was late) and headed to the devotional. It was a wonderful meeting. Afterwards, as the crowd was filing out, we decided to wait out the crowd and just sit and talk for a while. Well, a while turned into a couple of hours and so we headed back to the dorms. I remember going back into the apartment and started doing dishes (clearly in a good mood) and humming. I admit I was probably a little starry-eyed, I was surprised to find my roommates teasing me about how happy I seemed. And that wouldn't it be funny if I married Ken Ross because then I would be Kelsey Rose Ross! What a hoot!
I would've never thought that I, four years later, not only would I be married to him, but we have a baby boy together. And I just thought it was a great first date!

Little Miracle, Maybe Big

I didn't want to jinx it by blogging too soon about it, but Jared SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!!!!!
I haven't felt so wonderfully sane in a while! And when I say through the night, I'm talking about an easy 9:30 bedtime, followed by eight to nine hours of pure bliss! Now, I don't go to sleep at the same time as Jared (as evidenced by this post), but I'm getting some good shut eye these days. And sometimes Ken isn't constantly doing homework during Jared's asleep time!
Here's to hoping this continues at least until teething, sitting, crawling, and separation anxiety.
I love motherhood.

Nursing pillow and prop-your-baby-up-while-you-work pillow keeps Jared happy on his own with a new perspective on our living room. Making one is easy even for the sewing challenged.

Sisters

This week my little sister Ruth was in Provo! She was on her way to Rexburg and flew into Salt Lake. It was so nice to have her around. She is beautiful and mature. We didn't do anything wild or crazy, mostly chit chat, errands and dishes probably. We went bowling on Friday with the whole crew (Ruth, Annalisa, Vance, Jared, Ken and me). It was so wonderful to be all together. Here are a few photos for you, Mom and Dad!

Two month old

We recently took Jared to the doctor for his 2 month check up. He did really well with his vaccinations- once he calmed down, he was fine!
He now weighs 11 pounds 3 ounces and is 23 1/2 inches long. The doctor didn't give me the percentiles, but I look it up and it's pretty middle of the road. Jared is as healthy as a horse. Well, maybe a really tiny horse. A really tiny horse that smiles.
Also, he's really cute.

First Date

Ken and I went on our first date since Jared's birth last week. It was amazing! It was nice to connect as a couple instead as parents.
We went to Pastorero's for dinner, which is a Mexican grill. It was delicious and quite affordable and had excellent customer service. (For those of you in the Provo area it is by Sub Zero and Burger Supreme.)
We then went and saw the Star Trek movie, which was action packed, funny and not nerdy in the least. I really enjoyed it. Although seeing Sylar (from Heroes) as Spock was really hard to adjust to.
After it was all done we picked Jared up from Annalisa and Vance (best babysitters/ Aunt and Uncle ever!). I did enjoy the baby free time, but missed that little man terribly!
