Poetry

I like poems. They make me happy and I love the educated feeling I have when I read it. I recently got a new book of poetry (thanks Marcy) and I've found that I love rhyming. I find it frustrating when poems don't rhyme. I know I'm not a conniseur or anything. I just have decided that you can't just put things together in shorter lines and call it a poem.
Here's the first two sentences of this post in poetry form:

I like poems.
They make me
happy and I love
the educated feeling I have
when I read it.

Lame!
Some poetry are definitely just prose playing pretend.

I absolutely love short, very rhyme-y, funny poems. Here is the first poem in the book. It opens the section called Beginnings.

Time to Rise
A birdie with a yellow bill
Hopped upon the window sill
Cocked his shining eye and said:
"Ain't you shamed, you sleepy head?"
-Robert Louis Stevenson

Awesome.
Maybe over the course of the summer, I'll put up more poems that I like as I find them!

Feels like February

It has been cold and wet the past few days and it is supposed to continue to be like this for the next week. I should be incensed. I should feel outraged. But I don't. Jared and I have some gross colds (sidenote: It is way harder to be a mom when you are sick!), so we would be staying inside cuddling and wiping noses any way.
Here's what we've been using to stay sane. One for Jared, one for me.

Maybe I'm not stressed about the snow because I know it will end eventually. Unless this is a new ice age...

Avocado

One of Jared's favorite foods is avocado. It is a tasty food with good fats and will hopefully keep green foods in his repertoire.
This is one food that we have to give to him a little at a time because he will shovel as much as he can into his little mouth!

"Do I have something on my face?"

Playpen

Games

We have been playing lots of board games lately. Do I have any pictures of the games we played or of our guests? Not really.
But I do have evidence that it got crazy!
We call this Platypus face:

Ross Grandparents

Ken's parents came down for graduation (of course) and we had such a great time together! We played lots of games, shopped (for both practical things and fun) and ate wonderful food. It was fun to see Jared develop a relationship with his paternal grandparents.

Technology is not a Substitute for Sleep

With all the family outings during graduation weekend, Jared did not always make it to bed at his 7pm bedtime. We're usually pretty strict about it, but he didn't that consistency last week. Here is a video I took of him in hopes of distracting him on our way home.

Big Boots

My cousin Eliza gave us these last week and dress up with Jared has never been more fun!

Fake cough/ laugh

Jared started doing this during graduation week and I love it! He's such a social creature.

Third Anniversary

Ken and I have been married for three years! It has been wonderful getting to know Ken better and better. We celebrated with a meal at home and then a movie after Jared went to bed!

Oh! And my friend Crystal made us a mini version of our wedding cake. Delicious! Let me know if you want her number.

Jared and the Dog

Today, I was at my Aunt and Uncle's house. They have a dog named Izzy. I was so excited to see what each of them would do when they met.

Apathy! Seriously? Ah, well. I guess it is fine that Jared likes petting the carpet more than petting the dog!

Proud of Ken

On Wednesday, Ken will be taking his final undergraduate final! He has been working so hard for the past several years I can hardly believe it. A few times he tried to convince me to change majors to mechanical engineering, but after I saw what it entailed I refused. He has practically been working nonstop since I met him. He is so intelligent and dedicated to his education. I'm proud of my man for having a vision of what he wants and doing what is necessary to do it. So here is to five years of hard work from the man I love!

Trouble with a capital T

I left Jared alone for 10 seconds while I put something away in the kitchen. And this was the result:

I also LOVE his overalls!

Free Stuff

I've been getting a bunch of free stuff lately. Yesterday, our ward had a stuff swap. This means we bring things we don't need any more and take what others have brought. I got all this:

On Friday there was a big FREE party on campus for all graduating seniors and their families. It was awesome. Free pizza, burgers, soda, chips, ice cream, etc. There was a raffle, but we didnt' win. Also there were several booths set up by different colleges and organizations where you could get more free stuff:

I have also been signing up for some free samples. This isn't all of it. Only what I haven't used yet:

And finally, I love taking pictures of Jared after a messy meal!!!

Easter Weekend

Happy Easter!

We had an eventful weekend.

On Friday, I went to a mission reunion. My grandpa was a mission president from 1969 to 1972 in Germany and they are still having reunions! It was really fun to hear so many stories about and expressions of love for Grandpa.

Walter Kindt (He is the one with white hair, sitting down)

His most "snappy" picture from his youth

An old mission document with his signiture

A bunch of pictures from the mission

My sister, Annalisa, with my Grandmother's cousin Heinz (Yes we are very German!)

All the missionaries in attendance

Also, it was Conference weekend for us Mormons. This means, church meetings were broadcast on the television and we got to spend the entire day together!

It was wonderful to hear the words of hope and warning from the prophet on the day we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord!
