I love the Olympics so much! I even had a near emotional breakdown summer of 2012 because we didn't have cable to watch it. Fortunately, we invested in an antennae!
Anywho, I like to watch it as much as I can. I love seeing the crazy events (Check out Super-G skiing! It is wild!). So Ruth and I decided that we are going to cook foods from (or representing) different countries that are participating in the Sochi games for the entire duration of the Olympics.
Here is our menu so far:
Borscht (Russia)
Oriental Pork Soup (China)
Lentil and Canadian Bacon Soup (Canada)
Swedish meatballs (Sweden)
Pesto tortelini (Italy)
Jerked chicken and sweet potatoes (Jamaica)
Cordon bleu crepes (France)
Cheese Fondue (Switzerland)
Pork and red cabbage and spaetzle (Germany)
Fish and chips (UK)
Miso soup (Japan)
Kielbasa and Perogies (Poland)
Buffalo hot wings (USA)
Bulgogi (South Korea)
Please let me know if you have any more country/meal suggestions!

You could make lefse from Norway!

We do something similar every year, but just making a bunch of recipes from the host country. We did borscht, piroshki, Russian potato salad, Russian tea cakes, some cheese pastries called vatrushka, and really yummy cookies called ezhiki (http://www.olgasflavorfactory.com/sweets/ezhikihedgehog-cookies/)
I completely love this idea!! And I know what you mean about the meltdown. Dave and I don't watch TV, so we literally got cable for only one month in 2012 so we could watch the Olympics. We cancelled as soon as they were over! This year we're also doing a one month subscription of a digital antenna service. Dave knows I HAVE to watch EVERY SINGLE HOUR of the games - heh, wish I could say it was an exaggeration, but it's totally not ;)
Make some lutefisk. Yummo!
