We did do St. Patrick's Day

Green soda bread

Carving the corned beef

Good holiday. Mmmmmm.

I absolutely loved these leftovers, even more than the original dinner itself!

Baking failure

So all day Monday I slaved in the kitchen to make authentic German Broetchen. Seriously, I was in there for at least 4 hours. The recipe involved folding stiff egg whites into the dough and a lot of kneading and a lot of rising.
Well, by the end I was exhausted and let the last rise go waaaaaaaaaaaay too long. And the second batch to go in the oven had to wait even longer.
When they came out I just about cried.

Ken tried to comfort me not knowing that they were not supposed to be round or flat or fluffy or have weird drips all over them. They are supposed to be oval and crusty and hearty! Anywho, I sent some to school with him and gave the rest away. Instead of trying the recipe again I went to Siegfried's Delicatessen in SLC. It was awesome had what I needed and just about anything German I could think of.
I bought the rolls and went on my way no worse off for buying them.

P.S. This is what the rolls were supposed to look like! Thanks, Siegfried!

Moments

Lately, Jared has been really active. This means more running, more requests for outside, more tantrums, more chasing games before diaper changes and more trouble overall. It is exhausting!
My mother assures me that this is because he is almost two. This is just what two(ish) year olds do. So I am going to enjoy it. I'm glad he is entering this stage as the weather is warming. It is also fun to see him able to keep up with the older kids in the neighborhood. He is showing more independence and autonomy and that is a wonderful thing.
But I really can't help but love my sleeping toddler more than anything!

Things I ought to do

  • Make dinner
  • Do dishes from lunch
  • Do the laundry
  • Read my book (have to finish before next Tuesday)
  • Plan my porch garden
  • Sew the pompom on the hat Jared was supposed to fit into this winter
  • Switch to my spring decorations (I'm always late with this)
  • Clean the gross fridge
  • Scrub the sink
I think I'm going to play outside instead.

Donut eating tutorial

First things first, yell "treat" over and over again.
Next up, pick off the sprinkles and place them delicately in your mouth.
Once you realize that the frosting is also delicious, scrape that off and let it dissolve in your mouth/on your face.
Once all that sugar is off, begin poking the donut.
You know it isn't quite sweet enough, so leave it as is.
Done.
This should be your final product:

Wild week

We've all gotten sick. First, Ken got sick and then Jared, my sister Ruth and me. Despite all the grossness that comes with being ill, I've enjoyed this week. Jared and I have gotten a lot of cuddling in. He even preferred me over his dad and aunt! I've totally still got the touch.
